Sanctions lobbyists slated

MDC members and supporters have been lambasted for failing to recognise the harm that has been caused by the illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the West.

Citizens from varied walks of life said it was a shame that Black Americans and other foreigners were better informed about the damages that the sanctions had caused on Zimbabwe.

This dissatisfaction was expressed in the wake of the solidarity march against sanctions by the D12Movement in New York today at the ongoing United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

One netizen, Thomas Mungenge on his twitter handle posted that Black Americans understand what sanctions, which some Zimbabweans celebrate, mean.

“Black Americans understand that sanctions are a form of racism. Foolish Zimbabweans celebrate while they are racially abused,” he posted.

Another netizen, Munyaradzi Sengwe posted that Zimbabweans in the diaspora have a better appreciation about the bad side of sanctions unlike the MDC people.

“Zimbabweans living in the diaspora have a better appreciation about the bad side of sanctions unlike the MDC which thinks the sanctions are targeted,” he tweeted.

The D12Movement today marched against sanctions in New York where they demanded the lifting of sanctions which are impeding economic growth in Zimbabwe.

The US and its Western allies imposed the illegal sanctions in 2001 as a response to the land reform programme that was meant to correct historical imbalances in land ownership as a result of colonialism.
