Minister of State for National Security, Owen Ncube has assured members of the public that security forces are in full scale investigations pertaining to the issue of alleged abduction of president of the Zimbabwean Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA), Dr Peter Magombeyi.
In a press statement that he issued yesterday, Minister Ncube said, “As Minister of State for National Security, I have since directed members of security forces to launch full scale investigations into this matter. I am cognisant of the fact that such reports usually come ahead of major international conferences.
He also urged the security forces to conduct the investigations with an unbiased mind.
“I have also instructed the security services to investigate whether or not a third force is involved, I have however directed the security services to approach these investigations with an objective and open mind,” he said.
Minister Ncube reassured the public and any interested persons that members of the security forces are doing everything possible to get to the bottom of the matter and to bring all culprits involved, in whatever their standing.
Commenting on the same issue during Cabinet briefing, Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo said Government was particularly concerned over the growing trend of incidents of such nature, which he said put the lives of the country’s citizens at risk, whilst at the same time tarnishing the image of the country.
Dr Moyo appealed to all those with information that can assist in establishing the whereabouts of Dr Magombeyi to alert the police as a matter of extreme urgency.
He added that Government is deeply concerned with this threat to the safety of its citizens and is determined to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book.
Dr Magombeyi was last seen on Saturday, 14 September 2019 in Harare.
