President Emmerson Mnangagwa this morning carried out an on spot inspection of progress achieved on the construction of the new Parliament Building in Mount Hampden, where he reiterated the beneficial relationship between Zimbabwe and China.
President Mnangagwa told the gathering crowd that the new Parliament Building project was a brainchild of his efforts to better infrastructure development in Zimbabwe which he described as still lagging behind.
“It (Parliament Building) is a result of the discussion between me and the President of the Republic of China. He gave Zimbabwe the grant and we are grateful of that and the progress we are seeing today,” said the President.
He added that despite being unique and on course, the project is evidence of deepened friendship between Zimbabwe and China.
Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Guo Shaochun, echoed the same sentiments saying “Parliament Building represents the practical friendship between the two countries dating back to the liberation years. It puts to shame claims that Zimbabwe is not benefiting from its friendship with China.”
President Mnangagwa also revealed that there are still many more projects under discussion and Government is looking for funds to finance them as the country pushes forward to realize its 2030 middle income economy vision.
