Minister of State in the Office of Vice President Constantino Guvheya Chiwenga, Honourable Minister Evelyn Ndlovu has applauded Zimbabweans for participating in the clean up campaign saying that the event was made possible by the participation of every citizen.
Minister Ndlovu said this at the Traffic Safety Council national clean up campaign which took place along Central Avenue in Harare today.
"I honestly want to extend my gratitude for everyone here present for participating with zeal in the clean up of the Government complex and its surroundings.
"The event has been a success because we all displayed maximum corporation and commitment," said Minister Ndlovu.
She said that it was the sixth clean-up campaignsince President EmmersonMnangagwa's declaration of the programme on 5 December 2018.
"This is the 6thnational clean-up campaign following the declaration of the campaign by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, and Commander in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Cde E.D Mnangagwa, on the5thofDecember 2018," she said.
Honourable Ndlovu said that Zimbabweans must uphold the theme of the clean-up campaign programme which is "Zero tolerance to litter, my environment, my pride."
Minister Ndlovu said that the main purpose of the event was to clean-up the environment of the waste that people carelessly dispose at one point in time.
"The aim of the clean-up programme is to clean our environment of the waste, which at some point we carelessly dispose.
"May I at this point take this opportunity to encourage every Zimbabwean to shun littering or dumping of waste in areas not set aside for that purpose," said Honourable Ndlovu.
Minister Ndlovu said that the nation must envisage opportunities that come with proper waste management.
"I want to implore the nation to envisage opportunities that come with proper waste management in line with our national vision 2030 aimed at attaining an upper middle-class economy.
"On that note, I wish to state that recycling of waste using an integrated approachgenerates income and creates employment within the waste management sector," said the Minister.
The transport sector donated bins and cleaning detergents towards the clean-up exercise.
The national clean-up of the environment is observed by every Zimbabwean citizen on the first Friday of every month between 0800 hours to 1000 hours.
