The World Bank has commended Zimbabwe for the creation of the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) formerly the State Procurement Board through an Act of Parliament, Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act[Cap 22:23] which repealed the Act, No. 2/99 [Cap. 22:14] through S.I. 152 of December 2017.
Speaking at the launch of PRAZ at Rainbow Towers in Harare today, the World Bank Country Manager, Mukami Kariuki applauded the move highlighting that it is in line with international standards in the fight against corruption.
“The launch of the PRAZ is commendable as it promotes efficiency, honest and equitable procurement of public goods and it is in line with international standards set by the United Nations (UN).
“The move will also lead to the creation of employment and savings to Government.” She said.
Kariuki revealed that the World Bank has been working with the Government through the Ministry of Finance in ensuring that PRAZ is a success and vowed continued support in order to achieve objectives as set by PRAZ.
“As the World Bank, we have been partnering Government through the Ministry of Finance and pledge to continue to support Government in its efforts to attain efficiency and honesty in the procurement of public goods and services,” she added.
Kariuki also commended President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s efforts in tackling corruption and highlighted that the launch of PRAZ would go a long way in achieving his vision of a middle class society by 2030.
