President Emmerson Mnangagwa has today sworn in Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province, Senator Oliver Chidawu.
President Mnangagwa stated that the appointment was in terms of section 104 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment No 20 of 2013.
Speaking during the sidelines of the swearing in ceremony, Senator Chidawu said that he would work in unity with the Mayor and other bodies that are responsible for the governance of Harare. He said that all that he wants is to make Harare habitable and good for everyone.
Honourable Chidawu also stated that Harare has water challenges and he will make sure that something is done for the provision of water in Harare adding that people who live on wetlands must leave.
“We have no water right now so we cannot continue to deplete our water through people serving wet lands. Those who are there must know that they have to leave.”
However, Senator Chidawu indicated that the Government will find alternative land for those who are on wetlands.
Honourable Chidawu served as Mayor of Harare between 1984 and 1985 at the age of 29 becoming the youngest mayor in the history of Harare.
He is also a Chartered Engineer, Chairman of African Banking Corporation Zimbabwe, Non-Executive Chairman of Manners Group and founder of Kuchi Group of Companies.
