Traditional leader Chief Nemangwe of Gokwe South has hailed Government’s commitment to serving the nation by carrying out developmental projects in various communities countrywide and in particular his area of Nemangwe.
Speaking on the sidelines of the tour by the Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development officials in Gokwe South Constituency, Ward 9 yesterday, the traditional leader applauded Government for assisting communities in constructing viable gardens.
"Government’s community assistance has lessened insecurity among people under our jurisdictions."
Chief Nemangwe said the assistance rendered to communities by Government would go a long way in enhancing people's social and economic capacity.
The community organised themselves into a group of 105 members, with 98 women and seven men who were initially given $5 000 loan to kick start the garden project.
"Embracing Government’s programmes in our communities is something that we want to see. They are part of our economic set-up," he said.
Headman Pearson Nzungu welcomed the efforts by Government to provide startup capital to capacitate food security in Gokwe.
"To this end, our Government continues to showcase its commitment to serving the nation," he said.
Eustina Siantembe one of the beneficiaries said she managed to buy a scotch cart from the sales she got from the garden.
“I managed to pay schools fees for my children apart from buying a scotch cart,” she said.
She said household food security and their income had drastically changed and their life had been transformed.
Rosy Nemera and Tamwai both managed to buy two goats.
“I managed to buy two goats which in times of needy, I can sell and pay school fees for my children,” said Nemera.
Government’s efforts compliment the Command Agriculture which is to ensure that there is food security in the country.
