President Emmerson Mnangagwa officially opened the Ruwa Prodairy plant yesterday which will see the milk supply gap being improved.

Addressing a gathering that had come to witness the event, President Mnangagwa said, “We belong to this country together. We must therefore proffer and seek solutions together as we build the Zimbabwe we all want. Your mission is not only to build domestic market but to venture into outside world and earn foreign currency.

“I am told the skills are domestic which shows the good brains we have in this country. The vision we have for Zimbabwe will be accomplished if we synergy all our skills and work together,” he said.

Ruwa Prodairy plant employs one hundred and twenty people and over $ 6 million dollars is said to have been invested in the plant. The firm has a capacity to produce 120 thousand UHT milk, twenty thousand sterilised milk, forty thousand cultured milk and twenty eight thousand litres of maheu daily.

Speaking during the tour, Probands Dairy Operations Executive, Dave Kirtikumar said that more machinery is being set up to make sure that they produce the best they can to sustain the country as well as exporting surplus. Innscor Chairman, Addington Chinake said that Prodairy had initiated a programme in support of Government which is called Mafuro. He added that the programme was aimed at increasing the country`s dairy herd.

President Mnangagwa has always encouraged companies to do value addition of their products instead of importing raw materials. He is emphasising on exporting so as to get foreign currency. President Mnangagwa applauded this development saying that it will enhance the achievement of Zimbabwe`s vision of attaining a middle income economy by 2030.
