Let's shun corruption: President

by Bernard Mutambudzi

President Emerson Mnangagwa castigated business persons and corrupt people who are causing the suffering of the people.

Addressing the 109th Ordinary session of the Central Committee today at the ZANU PF headquarters, President said in the Second Republic there will be no leniency to the corrupt and those who cause untold suffering to the people of Zimbabwe.

"In the wake of the extremely wicked activities by gluttonous persons and businesses in our economy, l challenge you as the party to be highly disciplined and upright in all your dealings," said the President.

He said political positions should never be a licence to loot or abuse offices.

"We must cultivate a culture of responsible citizenry, in acts and deeds, not merely in talk," added the President.

"I exhort the party to be bold in the face of the political and economic reforms as well as the development and stability which we must promote.

“The party must resist the temptation to indulge in defective thinking, unhealthy practices and staying in the comfort zone. We have the weighty obligation to uplift the standard of life and the well-being of our people," said the President.

He repeatedly said the focus was now on the economics. President added that the power and mandate given to them by the electorate must be to work for the nation.

The President said the Central Committee must guide and galvanise the party towards stimulating robust provincial economies with distinct provincial Gross Domestic Products, from the district and ward levels.

"The party and the Central Committee should focus on proffering solutions on how best to implement economic strategies within a clearly defined time frames and targets," said the President.

He said in bid to cut Government expenditure and reduce the fiscal imbalances, all ghost workers within public service would be eliminated.

“l exhort party members to desist from indulging in showcase utterances which prop up personal glory or image," said President.

He said the party had entered into a phase where there would be no space for fence sitters and opportunists.

The 109th  Ordinary Session comes at the backdrop of the Party's thunderous victory at the 30th  July harmonised elections, where the Party garnered over two thirds majority in the National Assembly and 50,67 per cent in the Presidential elections.
