Despite media reports that MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa does not want any post in Government other than the Presidency, impeccable sources within the party have revealed that their leader now wants any post in Government should President Emmerson Mnangagwa extends an olive branch to him.
President Mnangagwa has indicated that he would adopt the Commonwealth Parliamentary democracy which officially recognizes opposition leader in Parliament. Despite President Mnangagwa’s democratic gesture, Chamisa spurned the gesture.
He has been going around telling his supporters that he was not voted to be the opposition leader in Parliament but to go to State House (President’s residence). Unfortunately, Chamisa did not realize that the post was not created for him per se, but for future ages to come.
Inside sources within Chamisa’s camp have revealed that there are divisions within the MDC National Standing Committee over the party’s position regarding coalition Government. Chamisa’s blue eyed boys, who are pushing for Chamisa’s uncontested presidency in the much hyped congress, are pushing their leader to join the GNU where they want him to demand the post of Prime Minister.
Among those in this school of thought include MDC Vice President Morgan Komichi, National Organising Secretary Amos Chibaya, National Deputy Treasury Charlton Hwende and National Secretary for Elections Murisi Zwizwai.
It is believed that this camp hope to get some ministerial positions once the party joins the GNU, more so with their closeness to Chamisa.
Chamisa is on record setting conditions for negotiation with President Mnangagwa and sources have revealed that he wants the Ministry of Home Affairs, Finance, Foreign Affairs and three other ministries which he wants to award to his blue eyed boys.
On the other hand, MDC Vice President Professor Welshman Ncube, National Chair Thabitha Khumalo and Deputy Chair Tendai Biti belong to the other school of thought which is against the formation of a GNU. This camp wants the party to forge ahead with mass protests to force the president to step down.
