Chipinge South legislator, Enock Porusingazi, has urged farmers in his constituency to venture into farming and contribute to the development of the nation.
Speaking at a Farmers’ Capacity Building Workshop being facilitated by the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Resettlement in Chipinge, Cde Porusingazi said people should take farming seriously as the country’s economic turnaround is hinged on the success of agriculture.
“I urge you all to take farming seriously. Farming is a multi-million dollar business that has potential to turn around the economy of this country. If we do well in agriculture, then everything will fall in place,” said Honourable Porusingazi.
He further urged participants to go and share the knowledge with other people so that the whole of Chipinge will have adequate knowledge on productive farming.
“After this workshop, let’s go and share the knowledge with those left at home. I also urge all of you to contribute in making Zimbabwe a bread basket of the region again. It is achievable through hard work and unwavering support to this agriculture sector.
“Let us not spend time in streets and bars drinking and taking drugs, let us work hard and prioritise production,” said Porusingazi.
The Chipinge South legislator further thanked President Mnangagwa for the capacity building workshop and applauded the Government for prioritizing land allocation to youths.
He further hailed the establishment of Youth Desks in Ministries and said the Desks helped in coordinating Government Programmes.
Speaking to this publication, the Chief Programmes Coordinator in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Resettlement, Nickros Kajengo, acknowledged that the agriculture sector’s potential could not be unlocked without the youth’s participation.
“Multi-sectorial engagement among institutions and Government should be initiated in order to jointly devise strategies and appropriate mechanisms to entice and make agriculture more attractive to many people, particularly the youths,” said Kajengo.
Kajengo further said beneficiaries of the capacity building workshop should thrive to come through with innovative and creative ways in order to make agriculture an alternative and profitable business.
