The private sector is a key ingredient to the country’s economic development, His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said.

President Mnangagwa spoke while touring PPC Zimbabwe Cement Milling Plant in Masasa yesterday where he encouraged other private players to have an increasing stake in the country’s economic development.

“Under the Second Republic, we are accelerating private sector driven economic growth and prosperity. There is no “us and them,” together, let us redouble our efforts to leap frog the attainment of our national development targets,” said President Mnangagwa.

PPC Zimbabwe built a new plant to the tune of US$80 million in Sunway City Industrial Park.

This follows their construction of a similar plant in Bulawayo plant which stamps their authority and commitment to infrastructure development, in the country and the region.

The President applauded PPC Zimbabwe for its support of the Second Republic’s key infrastructure development priorities which seek to  modernise the country’s roads and other infrastructure including houses and dams.

“As enunciated in the National Development Strategy, infrastructure development is one of the critical enablers in the modernization, industrialization and provision of socials services for economic growth,” he said.

The new dispensation has had a number of infrastructure developments under way, which include the rehabilitation and construction of the Harare-Masvingo-Beitbridge road which is critical to the country’s economy.

Last month the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA) and the District Development Fund (DDF) partnered in the rehabilitation of the country’s rural roads completing the first 10 kilometer phase of the Karoi-Binga road from Chivakanenyama to Zvipani.

Currently, ZINARA is working on the Makuti-Chiredzi road while the Chiredzi- Tanganda road construction is now complete.

The President urged PPC Zimbabwe and other private sector companies to take part in the Second Republic’s infrastructure developments which also include housing and dam construction.
