The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) has said international flights will resume flying the Zimbabwe route after suspending them for almost 6 months following a global Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, the Harare Post can report.
Speaking through its official Twitter handle @caaz_online, CAAZ Public Relations Manager, Anna Hungwe said “hello Jet-setters, we are back!!”
“Finally today we are open for international travel after 6 months,” she said.
Mrs Hungwe said, “Fastjet, Ethopian, Kenya Airways and Emirates will all resume flights to/from Harare today.”
In line with World Health Organisation (WHO) regulations, Mrs Hungwe encouraged adherence to health requirements, she said, “Please observe the new health protocols and measures for travel.”
Emirates will today make its maiden entrance at 1600hrs this afternoon at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, where a water canon salute will take place.
Meanwhile, Government announced that it was well prepared for the resumption of international flights, with the Ministry of Health and Child Care having held a special consultative meeting with all key stakeholders in the tourism industry to provide technical guidance on the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures for the re-opening of the designated ports of entry.
Travellers are further required to have a certificate clearing them of Covid-19, however if they show signs of Covid-19 symptoms they will require to be retested whether they have a Covid-19 free certificate, and a nominal fee of US$60 will be levied on travellers tested at ports of entry.
