President Emmerson Mnangagwa has underscored that the fight against corruption is on-going and should not stop, with ZACC leading the way.
This was said while addressing delegates at the African Parliamentarians Network against Corruption (APNAC) symposium for the commemoration of the International Anti-Corruption Day in Harare this Friday.
“We will continue to fight corruption. I dismantled ZACC as the public was not confident with the organisation. I created a new anti-corruption organisation led by a lady who is very strict. We have a commission to fight corruption, we need the support of the population. We all want a corruption-free society.”
President Mnangagwa went on to encourage the public to participate in the fight against corruption as it is everyone’s responsibility to report and thwart it. He added that it was Governments’ intention to eradicate corruption completely, and highlighted that Government was piecing up legislation to deal with weaknesses in in combating corruption.
Still addressing the congregation, President Mnangagwa took the opportunity to wish the nation a merry Christmas and advised that Government was on its feet to ensure that the nation is liquid throughout the festive season.
“As of Tuesday (this week) afternoon banks had been putting ZWL$30 million every day into the market, saying before this, they were releasing $10 million. This is meant to improve liquidity for people to have a decent Christmas.”
President Mnangagwa said other nations have their currencies and Zimbabwe was the only one without its own currency. He said Zimbabwe started mono currency to uplift the country's fortunes through production saying other countries were being assisted by multilateral institutions and that he said was the missing link towards the country’s development.
The symposium was running under the theme: "Tacking Stock of the Anti-Corruption Agenda in Zimbabwe."
