President Emmerson Mnangagwa`s engagement and re-engagement efforts are proving to be successful as a Germany multinational conglomerate, Siemens has shown interest in partnering Zimbabwe in the development of alternative sources of power generation to supplement the existing ones.
A high profile manager who works for Siemens confided in this publication recently. He said that Zimbabwe was set to benefit from the alternative sources of power generation that Siemens will offer.
The manager indicated that Siemens` portfolio includes state of the art wind and solar generation. He added that Zimbabwe is on the list of African countries that Siemens is keen to assist.
In Africa, Siemens assisted Kenya and Morocco to install windmill energy transformation systems for agricultural use.
Government is in a drive to ensure solar power generation in the country, a move which will help to ease the current power shortages being experienced in the country.
Speaking during the 25th Cabinet meeting yesterday, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa announced that “special incentives shall be provided through duty waivers on imported solar equipment.”
Minister Mutsvangwa added that it shall be mandatory for all new construction projects to be solar powered.
