As part of efforts to ease congestion at Forbes Border Post, a reputable property and financial services provider company is planning to develop a Dry Port facility at a farm in Mutare.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) official who works at Forbes Border Post revealed: "A reputable company which is a property and financial services provider is soon to establish a Dry Port facility at a farm that is later to be disclosed in due course in Mutare."
The source revealed that the company is currently negotiating with the farm owner so that they can be given 354 hectares at a cost that is yet to be finalised.
The source added that this is a positive development which comes at a time Zimra is facing congestion of commercial cargo at Forbes Border Post due to limited parking space.
Apart from establishing a state of the art Dry Port facility, the company will also develop ancillary infrastructure that include houses for security stationed at the Border Post as well as roads and water reticulation system.
This development is in line with President Emmerson Mnangagwa's vision of attaining a middle income economy status by 2030.
