In a move to emancipate women in the entrepreneurship, Government through the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Gender and Community Development has today held a breakfast workshop with women at Bulawayo Rainbow Hotel, aimed to provide a networking platform for women in business.
The workshop ran under the theme: ‘Empowerment of women: The missing link towards vision 2030.’
Addressing women at the workshop, Minister of State for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Judith Ncube appreciated the role played by women in economic development.
“We appreciate the role played by women in economic development. I am informed that the ministry’s vision is to economically and socially empower women through planned and concrete programmes where those women who are in business can pull up or mentor those who are still struggling to break free from the shackles of feminised poverty,” said Minister Ncube.
The Minister challenged women in business to ensure that they produce quality goods which they can export across the globe indicating that it was the desire of the Ministry of Women Affairs for women to have access to export markets for their products.
“It is the ministry’s desire that women have access to markets in order for their products to be exported across the globe,” she said.
Minister Ncube mentioned that the Ministry of Women Affairs was mandated to promote the empowerment of women as provided for in the Constitution.
“This goes well with the provisions of the Constitution which state that every woman has full and equal dignity with men and this includes equal opportunities in political, economic and social activities,” said Minister Ncube.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is on record for supporting the emancipation of women. In this regard, a Women`s Bank was opened last year to assist women to access capital to start their businesses.
