ZANU PF has said that a statement issued by the party’s Director of Information, Comrade Tafadzwa Mugwadi, regarding last year’s visit by a delegation from South Africa’s ruling party ANC does not reflect the revolutionary party’s position.
The party’s Spokesperson, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said ZANU PF and ANC enjoy cordial relations and it is wrong to suggest that the ANC’S delegation had a hidden agenda when it visited Zimbabwe last year.
“A statement by ZANU PF Director of Information Comrade Mugwadi on the visit last year of the ANC delegation to meet with ZANU PF on matters of mutual interest does not in any way reflect the position of ZANU PF.The statement was issued without authorization and must be dismissed with contempt.
“The ANC of South Africa and ZANU PF enjoy excellent and fraternal relations dating back to the days of our liberation struggles and continue blossoming up to this day. To suggest that the ANC delegation came to Zimbabwe with a hidden agenda is compound mischief, uninformed, unacceptable and unpatriotic. A communiqué was issued on the constructive two day meeting by the two fraternal parties and indeed these meetings will continue in future. Nothing was amiss. Necessary displinary measures will be taken by ZANU PF concerning those involved in the matter,” said Ambassador Moyo.
Cde Moyo said President Emmerson Mnangagwa has a strong friendship with his South African counterpart, President Cyril Ramaphosa and no one should try and destroy that relationship.
“The President and First Secretary of ZANU-PF Cde ED Mnangagwa, the President of the ANC Cde Ramaphosa called each other in high esteem and no one should attempt to soil this fraternal relationship. We are one people sharing a common liberation history, culture and destiny,” said Cde Moyo.
Cde Mugwadi recently had a public spat with South Africa’s SABC journalist Sophie Mokoena who she accused of hostile reportage against Zimbabwe and ZANU PF.Cde Mugwadi later threatened Mokoena that he release a “bombshell” and reveal the real reasons behind the ANC delegation’s visit to Zimbabwe last year. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has since challenged Cde Mugwadi to come out with his bombshell.
