The Zimbabwe Fashion Week Trust has launched a transformative program to support budding streetwear designers in Zimbabwe. Named the re-FASHION Accelerator, this initiative is tailored to enhance the skills and business acumen of young fashion talents. Interested designers have until July 31 to apply.
In a statement, Marshall Mutsamwira, Director of the Zimbabwe Fashion Week Trust, expressed his excitement about the new program.
“We are thrilled to partner with Entre Academy to launch the re-FASHION Accelerator. This initiative will provide Zimbabwean streetwear designers with crucial financial and logistical support to showcase their collections at Zimbabwe Fashion Week.
Entre Academy will lead the entrepreneurship workshops within this Accelerator. We aim for this program to enhance our designers’ potential, elevate the street style scene, and bolster our fashion industry overall,” he added
After a triumphant comeback in 2023, Zimbabwe Fashion Week is set to further its momentum into 2024.
“This year, alongside its Creative Accelerator Programme, the Trust has introduced the re-FASHION Accelerator in collaboration with Entre Academy. Scheduled to commence in September, this six-week program aims to blend entrepreneurial training with practical fashion design education,” Mutsamwira said
Participants will benefit from intensive mentorship and training sessions, covering a wide array of topics from conceptual design to effective marketing strategies.
“These workshops are designed to provide both creative and business insights, preparing designers for the competitive fashion industry. Additionally, participants will have the chance to broaden their customer base by showcasing their work at the B2C Showroom during Zimbabwe Fashion Week 2024,” he said
However, many Zimbabwean streetwear designers struggle to gain recognition due to limited networks and financial resources. The re-FASHION Accelerator seeks to fill this gap by offering targeted support to these underrepresented artists.
Meanwhile, emerging designers are urged to apply for this exceptional opportunity to develop their talents and gain exposure. The re-FASHION Accelerator is poised to redefine street fashion in Zimbabwe, offering a significant stepping stone for the country’s future fashion leaders.
