Minister of State for National Security Lovemore Matuke has praised Zimbabweans for standing firm against attempts to destabilise the country, saying citizens have shown their unwavering support for peace, stability, and the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Speaking at the ZANU PF Masvingo Provincial Co-ordinating Committee (PCC) meeting last Saturday, Cde Matuke said recent false claims by the Geza faction, a fringe group pushing divisive narratives, were exposed as baseless lies meant to create confusion and incite unrest.
“Some people were misled into thinking the security sector, especially the army, was backing the Geza group. That is not true. The State Security Sector remains professional and fully aligned with the President,” said Minister Matuke.
He expressed concern over the increasing abuse of social media by rogue elements attempting to push a regime change agenda, warning that the Government is putting in place robust measures to protect national peace and sovereignty.
“We have laws that we are working on to address the abuse of social media. We will acquire modern equipment to trace and deal with those who are using digital platforms to spread falsehoods and promote violence,” he said.
Min Matuke commended the people of Zimbabwe for ignoring calls to protest and instead choosing peace and order.
“Our citizens showed maturity. They refused to be used by elements who thrive on chaos. People stayed home because they don’t want violence – they want development,” he said.
He reaffirmed Government’s commitment to safeguarding national security, unity, and progress and urged citizens to continue rejecting attempts to derail the country’s development agenda.
He further emphasised that Zimbabwe’s future depends on continued peace and collective national effort.
“No country can move forward under the threat of lawlessness. As Government, we are committed to ensuring Zimbabwe remains a peaceful and prosperous nation. I urge all leaders, regardless of affiliation, to promote unity and discourage any form of incitement or misinformation. National interests must always come first," said the Minister.
Minister Matuke also called on political actors to act responsibly.
