March 31 protests a rumour: Minister Matuke

The Minister of State Security, Lovemore Matuke, has dismissed reports of planned protests on March 31, labelling them as baseless rumours spread by some members of the diaspora community.

Speaking at a tree-planting ceremony in Masvingo North Constituency yesterday, where he was the Guest of Honour, Minister Matuke assured citizens that the country remains stable under President Mnangagwa’s leadership.
"I have heard rumours about demonstrations at the end of this month, but I want to tell you that there is no such thing," he stated firmly.
The Minister reiterated that the country’s leadership was united and that any claims of instability were mere fabrications.
"Some people wish for divisions in their minds, but nothing of that sort will happen. This country is safe and stable in the hands of President Mnangagwa. He has completed many development projects, including roads and the modernisation of the Beitbridge Border Post. As the people of Masvingo, we should be proud of these achievements," he added.
Many community representatives welcomed the Minister’s assurances, emphasising the importance of peace and stability.
Local businessman Tendai Mhere commended Government’s efforts to maintain order.
"We appreciate Government’s focus on development. These rumours of protests only distract us from real progress. What we need is to work together to improve our communities," he said.
A youth leader, Ms Sharon Marunda, encouraged fellow young people to focus on economic empowerment rather than political distractions.
"Young people must take advantage of the opportunities being created instead of engaging in negative rhetoric online. Our focus should be on education, business, and skills development," she urged.
With Government officials assuring continued stability, Masvingo residents and beyond are being encouraged to remain focused on community development and economic opportunities rather than being influenced by social media rumours.
