A number of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members in Murewa West Constituency in Mashonaland East province have crossed the floor to join the ruling ZANU PF party, citing frustration over the opposition’s lack of progress and empowerment opportunities.

The individuals included former Councillor for Ward 12 under the Murewa Rural District Council, Rangarirai Chitiga. In an interview with this publication, Chitiga expressed regret over his time in the opposition, admitting that he felt misled while working against ZANU PF’s development programmes.

"I am back at ZANU PF. I was once a member of CCC under Chamisa, but I have realized that there is nothing there. I came back because I have seen the good work being done under President Mnangagwa. We are now working hard towards development and achieving Vision 2030," said Chitiga.

His remarks mirror the sentiments of several former opposition members who have defected to ZANU PF, acknowledging the ruling party’s efforts in community development.

Former CCC Chairman for Ward 12, ArchiboldChibhobho Motsi, also announced his return to ZANU PF, revealing that he felt exploited during his time in the opposition, with little to show for his commitment.

"I have seen a dramatic turn in my life since rejoining ZANU PF. I give credit to the party's empowerment programmes. I rejoined after realizing that I had wastedtime in the opposition, with little reward for my hard work and dedication. However, my fortunes have changed significantly since returning to ZANU PF," said Motsi.

Welcoming the returning members, Member of Parliament for Murewa West Constituency, Farai Jere, emphasized that ZANU PF remains open to all who are willing to contribute to national development.

"Everyone is welcome in ZANU PF. We are delivering, and people are noticing the good work being done under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa. We are leaving no one behind in our developmental initiatives," said Jere.

The defections signal a growing shift as former opposition members recognize ZANU PF’s influence in driving economic and social transformation.
