Vendors in Kotwa, Mudzi, are celebrating a major transformation in their working conditions following the construction of new market stalls funded by devolution funds.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Mudzi Rural District Council, has provided vendors with a designated and secure place to conduct their business ending years of struggling with law enforcement and harsh weather conditions.
Speaking at the official commissioning of the stalls, Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Itai Ndudzo, reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to improving livelihoods through devolution.
“What I have seen here is very commendable, and I promise you that as the Government, we will continue supporting communities to transform their lives,” he said.
Mudzi RDC CEO, Richard Nyamutswa, highlighted the impact of the initiative.
“As a local authority, we are very happy with devolution projects, being funded by the Government, in our district, which are helping us a lot,” he said.
For many vendors, the new infrastructure is a game-changer.
“We are very excited with the development as it has transformed our lives since we now have a proper place to operate from,” said one vendor.
Another added, “We used to play hide and seek with law enforcement agencies since we were operating at undesignated places, but this is decent now. We thank the Second Republic for the devolution funds that made this possible.”
The Mudzi RDC has been at the forefront of implementing devolution projects aimed at uplifting local communities.
In addition to the market stalls, Minister Ndudzo also commissioned other key infrastructure projects, funded through devolution, including a fire tender, a borehole rig, and waste management vehicles. These investments are expected to improve service delivery in Mudzi, enhancing both economic activities and public health standards.
The development is part of the broader Government effort to drive rural economic empowerment and improve infrastructure in underserved communities. With devolution funds continuing to support various projects across the country, more districts are expected to witness similar transformations, bringing improved livelihoods and economic stability to local communities.
