ZACC to roll out national anti-corruption strategyThe Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) is set to roll out its National Anti-Corruption Strategy 2, this year, as part of its ongoing efforts to tackle corruption within the country.
This move follows the implementation of the first strategy, which focused on reducing corruption and rebuilding public trust in Government institutions.
Acting Executive Secretary of ZACC, Mrs. Charity Matumbi, highlighted that while the country ranked 21out of 100 in corruption perception, this ranking did not fully capture the commission's work.
She pointed to significant strides in asset recovery, forfeiture, and combating money laundering as examples of progress that were not reflected in the rankings.
Zimbabwe's efforts to address corruption have shown results, as reflected in the 2024 Corruption Perception Index report released recently.
According to Transparency International Zimbabwe's Executive Director, Tafadzwa Chikumbu, the country's improved ranking is a testament to the successes of the first anti-corruption strategy. However, he stressed that more work remains to be done, including increasing public engagement in the fight against corruption.
Bishop Albert Chikuni, a representative of civil society, emphasised that the fight against corruption requires the involvement of all sectors of society to create a corruption-free environment.
The first National Anti-Corruption Strategy, which has been in effect for several years, included measures, such as improving accountability in the public sector, reforming procurement processes, and strengthening protection for whistleblowers.
