The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to closing the digital divide, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure that every citizen has access to modern technology.
In a recent post on her official X handle, the Minister shared the government’s vision for 2025, emphasizing the importance of technology in driving innovation and sustainable growth.
“As we step into 2025, we remain committed to drive innovation, bridge digital divides and empower every citizen with the tools for a connected future,” Minister Mavetera said on her X handle.
The Minister underscored how this commitment would translate into significant investments in building robust digital infrastructure and improve the accessibility of reliable and affordable connectivity.
“We will prioritize building a robust digital infrastructure, accessibility of reliable and affordable connectivity, fostering tech innovation and ensuring that no one is left behind in this rapidly evolving digital age. Let us work together to unlock the full potential of technology for sustainable growth and a digital economy for all,” she stressed.
The Minister also emphasized the need for collaboration and unity in order to make these ambitions a reality. She encouraged citizens, businesses, and government agencies to work together to create an environment where digital resources and opportunities are available to everyone, regardless of their background or geographical location.
Minister Mavetera’s statements come at a time when digital inequality remains a pressing issue in Zimbabwe, with large portions of the population still pack reliable internet access and digital literacy. The government's focus on infrastructure and affordability is seen as a crucial step toward bridging this gap.
The Minister also extended her best wishes in 2025, highlighting the importance of technology in the nation's economic and social development.
“Best wishes to you all in this 2025,” Mavetera concluded, expressing optimism for the future as the country continues its journey toward a more digitally inclusive society.
With this renewed focus on digital growth, government hopes to unlock new opportunities for citizens and businesses alike, driving the country toward a connected, sustainable, and digitally-driven future.
