Government has officially renamed the Mbudzi Interchange to 'Trabablas Interchange' in recognition of President Mnangagwa's contributions to national development.

The name 'Trabablas' reflects President Mnangagwa's liberation war moniker, symbolising his leadership and commitment to infrastructure advancement.

In a post-Cabinet briefing yesterday, Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr. Jenfan Muswere announced the renaming, stating: "Cabinet wishes to advise that upon completion, the Mbudzi Interchange will be named Trabablas Interchange in recognition of the visionary leadership of His Excellency the President Cde Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa."

The Mbudzi Roundabout, notorious for severe traffic congestion during peak hours, has been undergoing a significant transformation into a modern interchange.

Initiated under President Mnangagwa's administration, the project aims to alleviate traffic woes and enhance connectivity in Harare.

As of December 2024, the interchange is approximately 91% complete, with 13 out of 15 bridges constructed. The project is now expected to be finalised by January 2025.

The Mbudzi Interchange project represents a significant stride in Zimbabwe's infrastructure development, aiming to enhance traffic flow and safety in one of Harare's busiest intersections.

Political commentator Calvin Chitsunge said that the renaming of Mbudzi Interchange to Trabablas Interchange not only honours President Mnangagwa's legacy but also underscores the administration's commitment to national progress.

"Renaming the interchange to Trabablas is a strategic move that cements President Mnangagwa's legacy while showcasing the Government's dedication to tangible national development," said Calvin Chitsunge.

In addition to the interchange renaming, the Cabinet has approved the restoration of original names to several army barracks.

The Zimbabwe National Army's School of Infantry in Mbalabala has been renamed Lookout Masuku Barracks, honouring the late national hero and former ZIPRA commander, Lieutenant General Lookout Masuku.

Furthermore, Headquarters 1 Infantry Brigade will retain the name Khumalo Barracks, and Bulawayo District Headquarters will continue as Imbizo Barracks.

These changes are part of the Government's ongoing efforts to honour national heroes and preserve the country's history.

The renaming of military installations after prominent figures from Zimbabwe's liberation struggle serves to acknowledge their contributions and inspire future generations.
