Zimbabwe has made notable strides in its priority projects for the Third 100-Day Cycle of 2024, with significant updates shared by the Ministries of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, and Transport and Infrastructural Development.

Speaking at a post-Cabinet media briefing yesterday, the Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Jenfan Muswere, provided an overview of progress on youth initiatives, infrastructure, and preparations for the upcoming Extraordinary SADC Summit in Harare.
Dr. Muswere highlighted the government’s intensified focus on youth empowerment, announcing plans for a major Youth Empowerment Forum at the Magamba Vocational Training Centre, expected to attract over 10 000 young people from across Zimbabwe.
Concurrently, anti-drug campaigns have targeted more than 15 000 youths, with a recent event at Dungane Farm in Makonde District reaching over a million youths nationwide.
“These initiatives are pivotal in empowering our young people and raising awareness of critical challenges they face,” Dr. Muswere stated.
Progress in vocational training was also emphasised, with the refurbishment of a male hostel at Magamba Vocational Training Centre nearing 80% completion, set to accommodate 80 students.
Construction of the Sivomo Vocational Training Centre has reached 75%, while the Kadoma Vocational Training Centre is now underway.
Youth training programs have been concluded at Vumba and Dadaya training centres, placing over 1 000 youths in community attachment roles for hands-on experience.
Additionally, agricultural projects are in full swing, with three hectares at Magamba dedicated to commercial beans and another hectare at Tabudirira earmarked for commercial peas. These efforts aim to foster self-sufficiency and agricultural skills among Zimbabwean youth.
Dr. Muswere further reported that critical upgrades at R.G. Mugabe International Airport are 98% complete, with full completion anticipated by year-end.
Progress on major road projects was also noted, with a 3.8-kilometre segment of the Harare-Masvingo-Beitbridge Road now open to traffic and the Mbudzi Interchange project reaching 77% completion.
Additional road developments, including the Masvingo-Glen Norah loop and Amalinda Road, have been finalised, strengthening the country’s transportation infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is preparing to host the Extraordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government from November 16-20, with arrangements proceeding smoothly.
Dr. Muswere indicated that technical sub-committees are working diligently, leveraging protocols from the successful hosting of the 44th SADC Summit to ensure a seamless event.
The summit will address pivotal regional issues, including recent elections in Mozambique and Botswana and the upcoming elections in Namibia.
