In a bold step toward bolstering Mwenezi District's economy, the government has launched a new multi-service centre at Rutenga Industrial Park. Spearheaded by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Masvingo Province, the groundbreaking ceremony underscored the government’s dedication to promoting sustainable development in rural areas.

This visionary initiative not only promises to generate jobs but also aims to diversify local industries, enhance agricultural productivity, and equip young people with valuable skills all of which are set to transform Mwenezi's economic landscape.

In his address, Minister Chadzamira highlighted the significance of the project for Mwenezi’s future.

“This multi-service centre represents a significant step forward for Mwenezi. It will empower our youth and farmers, create jobs, and boost the local economy. By focusing on both agriculture and youth empowerment, the initiative aligns with Zimbabwe’s broader agenda to strengthen rural economies and increase self-sufficiency.

“The multi-service centre will host several key facilities such as paprika processing plant, a sesame value-addition centre, and a youth vocational training centre. These elements have been carefully chosen to support the local community’s economic ambitions and directly address unemployment by creating skilled job opportunities and expanding markets for local produce. The project exemplifies the government’s mission to foster grassroots development, providing essential infrastructure that empowers farmers and youth to participate in economic growth,” said Chadzamira.

Local leaders and residents welcomed the announcement with enthusiasm, anticipating the wide-ranging impact the centre will have.

A local farmer Josephine Moyo who attended the ceremony emphasized that this project will transform our agricultural sector and help us earn a decent living.

“The processing plants will allow us to sell our crops at better prices. The paprika processing plant, in particular, is expected to enhance the market value of local crops, ensuring farmers receive better prices for their produce. This shift toward value-added products is likely to increase income for many families in Mwenezi,” she said.

Additionally, a local youth leader Tendai Chivanga highlighted that the youth vocational training centre will provide critical skills training, opening new doors for young people seeking employment or looking to establish their own businesses.

“With many young people struggling to find jobs, this training centre is crucial. It will provide us with the skills we need to succeed. By investing in youth training, the project addresses a key challenge in rural Zimbabwe: equipping young people with the skills to thrive in a competitive job market,” remarked Chivanga.

Construction on the multi-service centre is scheduled to begin immediately, with completion expected within a year. The project aligns with the government’s national drive to decentralize essential services, bringing vital infrastructure closer to rural communities and fostering economic growth across Zimbabwe.

As Mwenezi looks to the future, the government’s commitment to local development shines as a beacon of progress. This multi-service centre symbolizes a brighter future for the district, paving the way for economic empowerment and sustainable growth. With this initiative, Mwenezi District is well on its way to becoming a vibrant hub of agricultural and industrial productivity, embodying the aspirations of Vision 2030 and bringing prosperity to the heart of Masvingo Province.
