The Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme was officially launched in Mashonaland Central, marking another milestone in the Government’s ongoing efforts to empower young women across Zimbabwe.

The launch event, held at Zanadu Farm in Mazowe District, was a celebration of female entrepreneurship and self-reliance as 250 goats were distributed to beneficiaries from across the province.

During the official launch last Saturday, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland Central, Christopher Magomo reaffirmed the province’s support for young women, noting that soon, young women's business units would be established to further economic development.

“In Zimbabwe, we have youth business units, village business units, and school business units. Soon, we will have young women business units starting here in Mashonaland Central. We will continue to support young women, as this aligns with the vision of our President, Emmerson Mnangagwa,” said Magomo.

Young Women for ED National chairperson Tatenda Mavetera emphasised the broader goal of the movement.

“The President’s vision is that no one should be left behind, and we are carrying forward that message through these developmental projects. The goat pass-on scheme is just one of many initiatives driven by Young Women for ED, which has also introduced projects such as poultry farming, rabbit rearing, and mushroom farming. The initiative aims to equip young women with resources that will enable them to generate income and become financially independent,” Mavetera remarked.

One beneficiary, Sheila Makoni, highlighted the grassroots potential of the project, saying we can now be self-reliant and pass on the benefits to others so that everyone can be empowered.

“We are happy with this project; it will reach the grassroots level. We launched at the provincial level, but we will soon take it to the districts so that all young women can benefit.

“I want to express gratitude on behalf of Young Women for ED Mashonaland Central Province. I want to thank President Emmerson Mnangagwa and our mother, Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa, for giving us these goats,” she said.

As the scheme rolls out across the country, it promises to bring about lasting change, fostering entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency among young women, particularly in rural areas.
