Government has marked significant strides in economic development and public service enhancements in the first 100-day cycle of 2024, aligning with the objectives of the National Development Strategy 1.
These efforts are pivotal in propelling the country towards becoming an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
In yesterday's press briefing following the Cabinet meeting, Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Jenfan Muswere, reported substantial advancements in various sectors as part of the Government's strategic initiatives.
According to Minister Muswere, the Ministry of Information, Communication Technology, Postal, and Courier Services has been particularly active, achieving considerable success in multiple projects aimed at digital empowerment and infrastructure improvement.
Over 1000 individuals have already benefited from new digital skills training, with an additional 200 expected to complete their training by May 15, 2024.
Government's record digitization effort has successfully processed 2 500 records, enhancing the accessibility and efficiency of public services.
The Minister added that Government’s Applications Procurement Framework was also on track to meet its completion deadline by mid-May.
Minister Muswere further said that education and connectivity have received a significant boost, with 40 marginalised schools now equipped with essential ICT equipment.
The initiative plans to reach a total of 100 schools by May 15, 2024. Additionally, 14 ICT-enabled disaster management centres have been established to improve emergency responses, and 52 new base stations have been deployed to enhance connectivity across various provinces.
According to the Minister, infrastructure projects have not been left behind, with the internet installation at Esigodini Agricultural College and the refurbishment of post offices in the Manicaland and Midlands provinces being completed. These enhancements have brought about tangible improvements in the lives of many Zimbabweans.
On the economic front, the Minister reported progress in stabilising and growing the economy. He particularly noted the successful introduction of the new Zimbabwe Gold Currency (ZiG), which is expected to foster economic stability and boost investor confidence.
Marondera resident Maria Macheka praised the Government's development efforts. "The deployment of ICT equipment in schools has significantly enhanced the educational landscape, while internet access has improved our agricultural productivity and food security," she noted.
Similarly, Joseph Shumba from Esigodini highlighted the positive changes in education and research capabilities at the agricultural college, which have broadened students' academic and practical knowledge of farming.
As the Government continues to monitor the progress, of these strategic 100-day cycle initiatives, its commitment to enhancing community well-being and driving economic prosperity remains unwavering.
These efforts are crucial to Zimbabwe’s ambitious journey towards achieving its Vision 2030 goals.
