President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called upon members of the ZANU PF Politburo and other senior Party figures to instil public confidence in the newly introduced Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency.
Speaking at the 374th Ordinary Session of the Politburo yesterday, the President emphasised the crucial role of the Party in guiding the nation through this transformative economic period.
“This meeting is being held a few days following the unprecedented opening of the national vaults and subsequent launch of our new ZiG currency, which is one of the ongoing measures to foster economic stability and stimulate growth. As the Politburo and senior members of the Party, we should instil confidence among our people in understanding the transformational policies,” President Mnangagwa stated.
The President also highlighted the importance of collaboration with the private sector, religious groups, and community-based organisations to enhance understanding and acceptance of ZiG.
President Mnangagwa underscored the need for comprehensive education and awareness programmes that will support the public in embracing the new currency.
“Meanwhile, programmes and activities to educate and raise awareness among the public, including those led by the private sector, the church and Community-Based Organizations, towards embracing our currency must be supported. In our case, sustainable socio-economic development, independence, and sovereignty can only be realised through the use of our local currency,” he urged.
The President further touched upon the ideological stance of ZANU PF, positioning it as a party of "progress, prosperity, peace, unity, and development," starkly opposed to internal discord.
“Petty squabbles, jealousies, and a misplaced sense of entitlement are not acceptable. We are not a Party about positions; we are about progress, prosperity, unity, peace, and development for all the people of Zimbabwe, no matter where they live or their social standing,” he added.
Reiterating the mandate given by the electorate in the 2023 Harmonized General Elections, the President called for continued focus on the national development agenda and encouraged greater grassroots mobilization.
“The Commissariat Department and the Leagues of the Party, including our affiliate organisations, must do more with regards to grassroots mobilisation and educating the people on the state of affairs within the Party and our nation," said the President.
Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa concluded by inviting more new members to join ZANU PF and learn about its people-centred policies and projects.
