President Mnangagwa has today replaced the condition of service vehicles for Chiefs, distributing 100 double-cab Isuzu vehicles.
This is part of the Government’s ongoing programme to ensure Chiefs are mobile and to restore their dignity.
Addressing the gathering during the handover ceremony held at the Harare International Conference Centre in Harare, President Mnangagwa underscored the indispensable role of traditional leaders as custodians of Zimbabwean culture, traditions, and heritage.
The President emphasised the need to uphold the dignity and welfare of Chiefs, acknowledging their multifaceted responsibilities, which include promoting sound family values, resolving disputes, and preserving the nation's rich cultural legacy.
"Given the role of our traditional leaders as custodians of our culture, traditions, history, and heritage, among other responsibilities, it is necessary that their dignity and conditions be of acceptable standards. Besides being traditional leaders, Chiefs are also public servants who are mandated by the Constitution of Zimbabwe to preside over their people and champion the promotion and preservation of our culture and heritage," remarked President Mnangagwa.
In addition to the allocation of vehicles, President Mnangagwa reiterated the Government's commitment to supporting Chiefs through various initiatives, including the provision of medical insurance and funeral assistance packages.
"Further, my Government will continue to provide medical insurance to our Chiefs, Headmen, and Village Heads from all communal areas. At the same time, the Government has put in place a funeral assistance package for Chiefs," he affirmed.
Recognising the pivotal role of Chiefs in fostering unity, peace, and development within communal areas, President Mnangagwa reaffirmed his administration's dedication to advancing the country's vision for prosperity.
"My administration further recognises that the multifaceted functions, roles, and responsibilities of Chiefs directly and indirectly contribute to unity, peace, and development, modernization, industrialization, and ultimately the attainment of our vision 2030," he stated.
President Mnangagwa assured the nation of the Government's commitment to addressing challenges posed by the El Niño weather phenomenon, particularly in ensuring food security for all Zimbabweans.
"In view of the dire effects of the El Niño weather phenomenon, I want to assure the nation that measures have been put in place to guarantee adequate food for all communities of our country," he affirmed.
Meanwhile, this latest initiative builds upon previous efforts by the Government to enhance the mobility and welfare of Chiefs, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to empowering traditional leaders and strengthening their capacity to serve their communities effectively.
