Zimbabwe has solidified its presence on the global energy stage by becoming the 73rd full member of the International Energy Forum (IEF).
This significant move, announced during a signing ceremony in Saudi Arabia, underscores Zimbabwe’s commitment to fostering dialogue and collaboration on critical energy issues. Minister of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment Promotion, Honourable Professor Mthuli Ncube, emphasized Zimbabwe’s eagerness to engage with top global energy stakeholders within the framework of the IEF.
“Zimbabwe is pleased to join the International Energy Forum to promote dialogue with fellow members on pressing energy issues.
“We will have closer collaboration with top actors in the global energy market which is of great value to Zimbabwe, and we seek to reduce energy poverty and enhance energy security,” said Minister Ncube.
Speaking in a statement Head of Global Communications, Tom Ashby, said Zimbabwe joins IEF that promotes energy security between producers and consumers, while adding 90 percent of global energy trade.
“The IEF's mission is to promote energy security through dialogue between producers and consumers
“It is the world’s largest organization of energy ministers, accounting for more than 90 percent of global energy trade,” said Tom Ashby.
Furthermore, IEF Secretary General, Joseph McMonigle reiterated the IEF’s commitment to ensuring that Zimbabwe expands its electricity grid well as augment its renewable energy sources.
“We look forward to collaboration with Zimbabwe on the energy transition, exploring how it can expand the electricity grid to integrate new base load and renewable energy sources,” said Mt McMonigle.
