In a ground-breaking stride towards democratising media access, the Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) proudly opened its Bulawayo regional offices at Windsor Park Complex yesterday.
The ZMC chairperson Professor, Ruby Magosvongwe said that the opening of the Commission’s offices in Bulawayo heralds a significant departure from the status quo, where journalists and media stakeholders were tethered to Harare for essential services like accreditation.
She said the establishment of ZMC offices in Bulawayo not only symbolises a triumph for media practitioners in the Matabeleland region, but also resonates with the Government's vision of decentralisation, ensuring that development reaches every corner of the nation.
The ZMC's chairperson expressed optimism, affirming that the new regional office would be a game-changer, fostering improved access to services for media stakeholders in Bulawayo, Matabeleland North, and South Provinces.
The significance of this move was underscored by Mrs Ebesta Lumeli, representing Bulawayo's Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Judith Ncube.
Commending ZMC for bringing its services closer to the people, Mrs Lumeli highlighted the profound impact of decentralization in line with President Mnangagwa's Vision 2030 for inclusive development.
"The opening of the Bulawayo office signifies the first step in establishing ZMC regional offices, extending to Masvingo, Midlands, and Manicaland within the current year," Lumeli declared.
She added that the opening of ZMC offices in Bulawayo not only addresses the logistical challenges faced by media stakeholders, but also signifies a strategic shift towards localised engagement.
Meanwhile, the presence of the ZMC in Bulawayo embodies a commitment to fostering a more connected and regionally inclusive media landscape, where the pulse of local developments is felt and responded to directly.
As the doors swing open to these regional offices, a new era dawns for media accessibility and inclusivity in Zimbabwe, echoing the Government's call to leave no one and no place behind in the journey of national development.
