President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to embark on his annual month-long official leave this week, Government has announced today.

 This leisurely respite follows his resounding victory in this year's Harmonised General Elections.

Deputy Chief Secretary for Presidential Communications, George Charamba, shared in a statement that President Mnangagwa plans to spend the break within the country, occasionally attending to personal matters requiring his attention.

During the President's absence, the two Vice Presidents, General (Rtd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga, and Colonel (Retd) Kembo Mohadi, will take turns to act on his behalf.

Charamba conveyed this arrangement, stating, "The two Vice Presidents will take turns to act while the President is on leave."

In extending warm wishes, Charamba took the opportunity to express festive sentiments: "As we wish His Excellency the President a restful break after what has been another hectic yet fulfilling year, we wish him, the First Lady, and the First Family a merry Christmas and a prosperous 2024."

President Mnangagwa's departure for leave marks the conclusion of a dynamic year during which he oversaw the completion of various significant projects.

Notable achievements include the commissioning of the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, housing projects aimed at benefiting the populace, such as the US$100 million Millennium Park development in Borrowdale West, and the US$40 million sugarcane project poised to generate over 2000 jobs in the country.

Since assuming office in November 2017, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has consistently opted to spend his annual vacation within the borders of the nation.

As he steps away from his duties, the nation anticipates a period of rest for its leader, hoping for a rejuvenated return in the coming year.
