Chamisa will not contest the 2028 Presidential Elections

The prospects for the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa in the 2028 Harmonised General Elections appear bleak, Harare Post has learnt.

Political analyst, Kudzai Mtisi who is known for his insightful commentary, has shed light on the internal turmoil within that party, attributing the ongoing recalls to Chamisa's perceived selfish and dictatorial tendencies. Mtisi revealed that Chamisa`s perceived behavior would lead to his demise in 2028.

Mtisi took to his social media handle on X platform to share his assessment.  He stated that Chamisa's chances of contesting in the 2028 elections were in jeopardy. He predicted a significant exodus of CCC legislators from parliament, estimating that more than 90% of the current MPs would be out of office by 2025. The prognosis extended to the 2028 elections, where only a handful of them would vie for positions, with Chamisa failing to contest the presidency.

"By 2025, more than 90% of the current CCC MPs will not be in parliament, and by 2028, only a few of them will contest during the harmonised elections, while Nelson Chamisa will not contest the presidency again," Xeeted Mtisi.

Highlighting the repercussions of such recalls, Mtisi emphasized that Zimbabwean voters were unlikely to support legislators who spent the majority of their time outside parliament due to disciplinary issues. He criticized the inefficiency of such representatives in particular Fadzayi Mahere, asserting that the legislative process would proceed even without their active participation.

"Voting for an MP who spends 90% of the time outside Parliament because she cannot behave like a normal person, some people wasted their votes. The Budget debate will go ahead without them and be passed. Parliament must be tough on rowdy MPs," he remarked.

Meanhwile, CCC's internal strife came to a head in October when Secretary General, Sengezo Tshabangu recalled 15 lawmakers. In the recent December by-elections, the party only managed to retain one seat out of the eight contested, losing the remaining seven to ZANU PF. Further exacerbating the situation, Tshabangu has just recalled James Timba from the position of Senator, paving the way for Tendai Biti to assume the position.
