In a rousing rally held in Bulawayo's Cowdray Park suburb yesterday, Vice President Dr. Constantino Chiwenga rallied thousands of ZANU-PF supporters, expressing confidence in the Party's imminent victory in the by-elections scheduled for the upcoming weekend.
Dr. Chiwenga described the current turmoil within the opposition ranks as a golden opportunity for ZANU-PF to secure a resounding triumph.
Vice President (VP) Chiwenga, while endorsing ZANU-PF's Cowdray Park National Assembly candidate, Arthur Mujeyi, and council representative for Ward Six, Kidwell Mujuru, emphasized the potential for significant development in the area.
Highlighting the positive impact of previous ZANU-PF initiatives, VP Chiwenga pointed out, "You saw for yourselves what was done in this area by the former candidate in the August elections. Cowdray Park has one of the best roads in this City, the Government also managed to construct a state-of-the-art clinic here, where we also availed an ambulance. We have not stopped there; another ambulance will be coming to service your area."
Dr. Chiwenga assured residents that further progress would follow if voters elected ZANU-PF candidates Mujeyi and Mujuru in office in the upcoming by-elections.
With a population of 75,000 as per the 2022 population census result, Cowdray Park faces educational challenges due to the limited number of schools available.
The community's sole secondary school accommodates 2,500 learners, making it a "three-in-one" school, a situation where one institution must cater to the population of three schools.
VP Chiwenga acknowledged this issue and said that the Government will address it, promising the construction of additional secondary schools to ease the burden on students.
The Vice President went on to emphasize the importance of voting wisely and urged residents not to elect individuals who had played a role in the nation's past troubles.
Dr. Chiwenga underscored ZANU-PF's commitment to the City's development and pledged to continue transforming Cowdray Park and the broader Bulawayo region.
Cowdray Park is one of five constituencies in the city set to hold by-elections, with ZANU-PF candidates contesting Albert Mavunga in Nketa, Menziwe Dube in Lobengula-Magwegwe, Raj Modi in Bulawayo South, and Dzingai Kamamba in Mpopoma-Mzilikazi.
The rally also featured prominent figures from the ZANU-PF leadership, including Dr. Mike Bimha, Tshinga Dube, Elifasi Mashaba, Molly Mpofu, Webster Shamu, Judith Ncube, and Jabulani Sibanda, among others.
