Ignatius Chombo, a former ZANU-PF Cabinet Minister who was expelled from the party in 2017 has applauded President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership, which has seen him exhibiting the spirit of forgiveness.
Chombo who is seeking readmission into ZANU-PF applauded President Mnangagwa on his X handle for being a peaceful and not a vindictive leader.
“Today I was privileged to meet President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House before he left the country to attend the Saudi Arabia Africa Summit, may God bless this man because he is indeed not a vindictive leader, but one who is after Unity, Peace and Development,” said Chombo.
Relatedly, Zanu PF member, Maria Mapeto said that Chombo should be forgiven and given another chance in Zanu PF.
"I'm glad that Chombo is finally admitting that he made mistakes. He should be forgiven and allowed to return to the party," said Mapeto
Political analyst, Chenai Chisi from Bindura University stated that the re-admission of Chombo into Zanu PF would show that President Mnangagwa is a forgiving leader.
“Chombo's meeting with President Mnangagwa is a sign of the President's willingness to forgive those who have wronged him. His readmission into Zanu PF will be a significant victory for both him and the Party. It shows that Zanu PF is willing to forgive and forget. Chombo will also be able to use his experience and skills to serve the country once again,” said Chisi.
Chombo who was a close ally of former President Robert Mugabe was expelled from Zanu PF in 2017 following his implications in several corruption scandals. He then wrote a letter earlier last month to Mashonaland West Province seeking re-admission in Zanu PF. All the six political districts in the Province supported Chombo`s re-admission into the party and the final decision now rests with the ruling Party’s politburo.
Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa has said that he is willing to forgive those who are willing to apologize and change their ways.
