The atmosphere at the National Sports Stadium today was electric as President Mnangagwa was sworn into office.
In his speech, the President boldly addressed the recent elections, highlighting the nation's determination against detractors who wished to see Zimbabwe descend into chaos and violence.
"We have shamed our detractors who predicted and clandestinely financed mayhem expecting the worst from us before, during, and after our polls. The will of the Zimbabwean people has been expressed and must be respected," proclaimed the President, sending a clear message of Zimbabwe's unwavering stand in the face of challenges.
President Mnangagwa paid tribute to the nation's roots, emphasizing that as Zimbabweans, they have always defended the sacred land bequeathed by the great heroes and heroines.
The President reminded the masses that the hard-fought democracy, independence, and sovereignty enjoyed today were gifts from forefathers who paid the ultimate price with their lives.
On the international front, President Mnangagwa asserted Zimbabwe's stance: a sovereign state, open to friendships, and bearing no animosity towards any. He reiterated, "Zimbabwe is a friend to all and an enemy to none."
The President underscored the nation's commitment to its roles within SADC, the African Union, and the United Nations. These engagements, he highlighted, are grounded on the principles of mutual respect and the sovereign equality of nations, as enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
Taking a firm position, he warned against any undermining of Zimbabwe's national institutions and laws.
"No country or group of persons should disregard the sovereign decisions and views of the people of Zimbabwe," the President asserted, emphasizing the sanctity of the nation's autonomy.
Delving deeper into the spirit of sovereignty, President Mnangagwa pronounced that Zimbabweans will never be regarded as second-class citizens on their own soil. With an outlook of unity and collaboration, he extended an olive branch, expressing readiness to cooperate with those willing to engage constructively with the ZANU PF government.
The swearing-in ceremony drew massive attendance. Notable attendees included former Vice Presidents Joice Mujuru and Phelekezela Mphoko. The presence of former First Lady Grace Mugabe, alongside her children, also garnered attention, showcasing a display of unity and moving forward.
