…as election loss becomes evident

As election defeat is fast becoming a reality for Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), discontent has started brewing within that party, with close sources disclosing that a witch hunt has ensued in earnest following the just ended Harmonised General Elections, where CCC has lost seven out of 10 constituencies, the Harare Post can expose.
According to a source within the CCC, several party members are pointing fingers at their leader, Nelson Chamisa accusing him of causing the embarrassing defeat to Zanu PF.
“The majority of CCC members believe that Chamisa's decision to purge the old guard within the CCC party in favour of younger members was a significant factor in their loss. The likes of Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube and Thabitha Khumalo commandeered large followership, as such their purging angered a lot of supporters whose chances of a protest vote were high.
“Word within the circles of CCC is that the old guard who include Tendai Biti and incarcerated Job Sikhala among others are now agitating for a CCC party congress to remove Chamisa from his leadership role. They believe that his leadership decisions, particularly the exclusion of experienced party members, weakened the party's chances in the elections,” said the source.
Moreover, it remains to be seen whether the old guards will have the stamina to challenge the immature leadership of Nelson Chmaisa through an elective congress. This internal turmoil could have far-reaching consequences for the future direction of the party.
