In a shocking incident this morning at Hatfield Girls High School, aspiring Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidates, Rewayi Nyamuronda and Admire Adam Griza came close to a physical altercation.
Allegations of Griza being an agent for the ruling ZANU PF party sparked the heated confrontation.
People who gathered at Hatfield Girls High School quickly intervened, preventing what might have escalated into an all-out brawl.
"It was a tense moment. Everyone was in disbelief. Out of nowhere, Nyamuronda started pointing fingers at Griza, accusing him of being a fraudster and not genuinely representing the CCC. Griza fired back, and it looked like they were about to get physical," recounted Tendai Moyo, a local resident who witnessed the exchange.
This internal rift within CCC comes at a crucial moment as preliminary poll results from various stations in Hatfield have started to paint a picture of the intra-party competition.
According to results posted at the Wedzera Tent polling station, located near Airport Road, Griza leads with 214 votes, while Nelson Chamisa's endorsed candidate, Nyamuronda, lags behind with 167.
Observers and political analysts have pointed out the potential implications of the CCC’s double candidature in Hatfield.
“This internal division could pave way for ZANU PF’s candidate, Paidamoyo Nyamukanga, to capitalize on the split vote scenario. If CCC supporters are divided between the two contenders, it might dilute their collective voting power, making it easier for ZANU PF to secure a victory,” said one local observer who preferred anonymity.
However, it’s worth noting that despite this morning’s incident, the overall voting process in Hatfield has been reported as calm and peaceful. Authorities have not recorded any cases of political violence or major disruptions at the polling stations.
The majority of the electorate remains keen on ensuring that their voices are heard in a manner that is democratic and devoid of hostility.
