.....as the price of basic commodities decrease

The price of basic goods and services continues to decline following the implementation of corrective measures by the Government, Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Senator Monica Mutsvangwa said.

Speaking at a post-Cabinet briefing today, Senator Mutsvangwa said the price of bread, cooking oil, sugar, and mealie-meal, among other basic commodities, had tumbled.

This follows the corrective measures that were announced in June 2023 by the government, including the introduction of the Foreign Auction System, the suspension of duty on imported basic commodities, and the establishment of a task force to monitor prices.

"The corrective measures implemented by the government following a spike in the prices of basic goods and services around June 2023 have seen the prices continue to go down.

The Cabinet is pleased that the measures have been effective in curbing the price increases and that the foreign currency exchange rate remains stable. The price of mealies has declined by 27%. This is testimony to the Second Republic's sound management of the economy," said Minister Mutsvangwa.

Additionally, Mutsvangwa said the government was committed to ensuring that the price of basic goods remained affordable for all Zimbabweans.

"The government is committed to ensuring that the prices of basic goods remain affordable for all Zimbabweans. We will continue to monitor the situation and take necessary measures to ensure that prices are kept under control," said Minister Mutsvangwa.

Meanwhile, Minister Mutsvangwa informed us that the government was also pleased by the tobacco and wheat production increases, which confirmed that the land reform programme has been a success.
