The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) is set to interview the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) aspiring Presidential candidate for the 2023 Harmonised General Elections Nelson Chamisa, on 04 August 2023, if he accepts the invitation.
A top ZBC official has revealed to this publication that Chamisa was invited to partake in an interview with the ZBC that would take place on 04 August 2023.
“ZBC would be interviewing all the 2023 presidential candidates as part of the national broadcaster`s programme code-named ‘the candidate’. The leader of the CCC was also invited for an interview that will take place on 04 August 2023.
“The CCC interim Deputy Spokesperson, Gift ‘Ostallos’ Siziba was sent to convey the message to Chamisa and the ZBC authorities are waiting for his response,” said the ZBC official.
Meanwhile, during a recent briefing for diplomats and foreign observer missions accredited to cover the country`s harmonized elections, the Deputy Minister of Media, Information and Broadcasting Services, Kindness Paradza, emphasized ZBC`s readiness to cover the elections fairly.
“The broadcaster has dedicated time for candidates, party manifestos, and then constituencies` indaba. These are offered to political parties for free so that they can disseminate their messages free of charge,” he said.
On the contrary, the interim National Spokesperson, Fadzai Mahere has instructed party candidates to refrain from granting interviews to journalists from the ZBC. The party reportedly advised its candidates to only grant interviews to international media houses like SABC, Voice of America (VOA), and Reuters, and to shun the national broadcaster, which it accuses of bias.
