In an alarming turn of events, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) aspiring election candidates have been engaging in desperate measures to raise campaign funds, specifically targeting the diaspora community.
Political analysts have castigated the unethical methods of generating funds for personal use, by the cash-stripped CCC aspiring candidates, from the diaspora in the pretext of campaign funds for the upcoming Harmonised General elections, slated for 23 August 2023.
“It is disheartening to learn that some CCC candidates have chosen unethical means to generate funds. Recently, Daniel Molokela-Tsiye posted his bank details and Ecocash number, as well as a South African FNB bank account, soliciting for cash from the Diaspora supposedly to “finance” his campaign trail.
“Molokele and other aspiring candidates of the CCC are utilizing questionable tactics to extract money from members of the Diaspora, by exploiting the strong ties and emotional connections many diaspora members maintain with our home country.
“If the Diaspora manages to send contributions towards the donations, you can be assured that the collected proceeds will be diverted for personal use, rather than being channelled towards campaign activities or initiatives for the benefit of the electorate,” said political analyst, Terrence Chipwanya.
Meanwhile, the diaspora community represents a significant and valuable resource for our country through remittances, offering financial support, knowledge, and networks that can contribute to their home country’s development and progress. The actions of CCC are threatening to tarnish this essential bond and discourage future engagement on financial causes. The Diaspora community should be cautious in supporting and endorsing candidates who don’t demonstrate a commitment to transparency, accountability, as record has it that previous proceeds gathered for the CCC projects have been misappropriated for personal gain rather than being utilized for their intended purposes.
