Chamisa facing mutiny

Political Reporter

There are indications that several top CCC leaders are either contemplating rebelling against Nelson Chamisa or sabotaging his election campaigns. For example, the late filing of CCC candidates’ registration papers has been attributed to members of Chamisa’s kitchen cabinet who are sympathetic to either ZANU PF or to an anti-Chamisa faction within the CCC.

The registration of multiple candidates for the elections is also attributable to the growing disgruntlement with Chamisa’s leadership style.

The rebellious spirit has significantly diminished Chamisa’s popularity and will amplify the magnitude of his defeat. In a clear sign of rebellion, the majority of CCC candidates in Matabeleland South did not attend the CCC Beitbridge star rally held on 23 July 2023. According to sources within the CCC only one candidate attended the rally. Chamisa has no power to immediately punish the rebels as that can hand political capital to ZANU PF. He plans to deal with them after the elections.

Meanwhile, political analysts have observed that treachery and betrayal within the CCC was only natural given the very “bright prospects of defeat” and the capacity and thirst of ZANU PF to lure and welcome all defectors. Some have alleged that ZANU PF could have bought “a few CCC leaders”.
