President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Saturday said that Mashonaland Central was a ZANU PF stronghold and that the Party will win resoundingly in the upcoming elections.
President Mnangagwa was addressing a rally in Centenary yesterday, Mashonaland Central province where thousands of ZANU PF attended.
The President said that while there might be some isolated cases of wayward behaviour in the province, ZANU PF remains a stronghold.
"We are aware of various parties that claim they want to rule, but ZANU PF will win resoundingly. We will allow them to freely express themselves, but they will not succeed,” said the President.
President Mnangagwa said that since independence, Mashonaland Central has been winning all the parliamentary seats and he challenged the ZANU PF provincial chairperson, Cde Kazembe Kazembe, to retain all the seats
President Mnangagwa also said that there were some detractors who imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe hoping that the populace would revolt against the legally elected ZANU PF Government. However, he said that this has failed.
"No one can claim the history of Zimbabwe except the ZANU PF party that liberated the country. We are the Party that fought for independence, and we are the Party that will build a better future for Zimbabwe,” added President Mnangagwa.
The President also said that in terms of agriculture, Zimbabwe was now food secure after implementing climate proofing farming methods which addressed food security at the household level, among them Pfumvudza/Intwasa.
"We have made great strides in agriculture, and we are now food secure. This is a result of the hard work of our farmers and the policies of ZANU PF,” said the President.
Zanu PF has already held five Star Provincial rallies, and is expected to hold the remaining five Star Rallies in the coming weeks as it continues to mobilize for votes ahead of the 23 August elections.
The party is confident of victory in the elections, and is hoping to retain its majority in Parliament.
