Former MDC A proportional representation legislator, Lindiwe Maphosa slated opposition leaders for lack of seriousness.
Maphosa defected to ZANU PF along with nine other MDC A proportional representation legislators. The nine are Memory Mbonda, Brightness Mangora, Lindani Moyo, Joyce Mafuta, Lindiwe Maposa, Bessy Ngoma, Nyaradzo Gozho, Peter Moyo, and Winnie Kankuni
Speaking at a welcome meeting at ZANU PF Head Quarters (HQ) on Wednesday, Maphosa said they decided to defect to ZANU PF due to lack of seriousness in the opposition political parties. She took a swipe at MDC-T leader, Douglas Mwonzora and Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa for being disorganized and turning opposition politics into students activism.
She said Mwonzora even failed to pay nomination fees for his legislators and councillors. She also added that Chamisa lacked vision for the development of the country. She said the CCC candidate selection process was chaotic as compared to the ZANU PF primary elections which saw young National Assembly candidates on board. She further slated CCC for not having structures. She applauded the achievements of the new dispensation in various sectors.
Meanwhile, several opposition members have been lately crossing the floor of the ruling party. Even bigwigs such as Lilian Timveous and Blessing Chebundo also deserted the opposition party.
A survey recently carried by Afrobarometer indicated that people prefer ZANU PF over its closest challenger, CCC. According to the survey, 35 percent of the people said they would vote for ZANU PF if the elections were to be held the following day-, while 26 percent said they would vote for CCC.
