Bulawayo CCC members attack Chibaya

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim organising secretary, Amos Chibaya had to scurry for cover as angry party members bayed for his blood last Sunday in Bulawayo.

A source who spoke to this publication said that Chibaya was in Bulawayo last Sunday to hear members’ concerns regarding that party’s candidate selection process and also to deliver Nelson Chamisa’s election campaign message.

However, the meeting turned violent when angry members accused Chibaya and Nelson Chamisa of imposing their acolytes in Bulawayo at the expense of seasoned Bulawayo CCC members.

According to the source, Chibaya was not given time to deliver Chamisa’s message to the people as he was heckled and attacked with clenched fists by angry members.

“He (Chibaya) came to Bulawayo last Sunday to address the growing anger and discontent among members regarding his handling of the candidate selection process. He had also come to deliver Chamisa’s campaign strategy to the party’s leadership in Bulawayo. However, he was heckled and attacked by angry members who accused him and Chamisa of imposing undeserving candidates in Bulawayo,” said the source.

The source said that people who attacked Chibaya were under the command of Matson Hlalo whose name was controversially removed from the Senate party list at the Nomination Court.

“The people who attacked Chibaya were working under the command of Hlalo. Hlalo was accusing Chibaya of removing his name from the Senate Party list submitted to the Nomination Court on 21 June. Hlalo told Chibaya on his face that he had destroyed CCC by imposing candidates in most parts of the country,” added the source.

The same source said that the CCC Bulawayo members resolved that Chibaya should never come again to Bulawayo to address them as he was compromised and not worth to be that party’s Organising Secretary.

According to the source, Chibaya was further accused of ‘donating’ the 12 Bulawayo constituencies to ZANU PF as the chaotic nature of the CCC’s candidate selection process caused all of that party’s candidates to file their nomination papers after the 4 PM Nomination Court deadline.

ZANU PF has taken the matter to court in an attempt to have all those who submitted papers after the 21 June 4 PM deadline to be disqualified and if successful, the Party could potentially secure all 12 National Assembly seats in Bulawayo.
