Zanu PF Vice President, Kembo Mohadi has slammed propaganda cartels, saying they were trying to divide the country.

Speaking during the 2023 elections media training workshop held at the Zanu-PF headquarters in Harare yesterday, Cde Mohadi said the mainstream media and some propaganda cartels were using social media and other platforms to spread falsehoods and misinformation.

He added that the cartels were trying to incite violence and sow discord among Zimbabweans.

"We are aware of the existence of propaganda cartels that are using social media and other platforms to spread falsehoods and misinformation. These cartels are trying to divide our country and incite violence. We will not allow them to succeed," said Cde Mohadi.

Cde Mohadi said the Government was committed to peace and unity. He reiterated that the government would not hesitate to take action against those who were inciting violence or spreading falsehoods.

"The government is committed to peace and unity. We will not allow anyone to divide our country or incite violence. We will take action against those who are doing this," said Cde. Mohadi.

The country is scheduled to hold general elections on 23 August 2023, and there is concern that the propaganda being spread by some western and independent media could cause tension in the country that would lead to violence.

Political analyst, Enaida Hore said that Cde Mohadi's warning to the propaganda cartels was a sign that the government was taking the threat of violence seriously.

"The government has a responsibility to ensure that the elections are peaceful and that the people of Zimbabwe are able to exercise their right to vote freely. The propaganda cartels are a threat to this right, and the government must take action to stop them," said Hore.
