Government has informed the nation that there is a sharp decline in cases of Cholera patients following Government`s measures to stop the spread of endemic.
Presenting in a Post Cabinet briefing yesterday, Acting Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Jenifan Muswere articulated a number of measures taken by the Government to prevent the spread of Cholera stating that National, Provincial and District Rapid Response Teams had been put in place.
“Meanwhile, Cabinet enjoins the public to note that Government has taken the following actions in response to the Cholera outbreak; the National, Provincial and District Rapid Response Teams as well as the Civil Protection Committee (CPC) have been activated, the National Reference Laboratory is carrying out drug sensitivity tests for any suspected cases of Cholera. Acute Water Diarrheal (AWD) Kits are pre-positioned at Cholera hotspots,” said Minister Muswere.
Minister Muswere further mentioned that all districts in the country are on high alert for any outbreaks and that community health workers were sensitized and community awareness programme was on-going.
Meanwhile, the Cholera Outbreak Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan for 2023-2024, the relevant budget, as well as the country`s Cholera and Typhoid Guidelines have been reviewed and updated and Vaccination campaigns for vaccine-preventable diseases like measles and polio are also on-going.
Since 12 February 2023, sixty suspected cases of Cholera had been reported in Zimbabwe from Chegutu (58), Mudzi (1), and Mutare (1), of these five cases have been confirmed.
